Role Overview
As a Plant Fitter, you are responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of company assets related to rail construction and maintenance. Your work ensures that plant equipment remains operational, safe, and efficient.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance on plant equipment, including excavators, cranes, bulldozers, and other machinery used in rail projects.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
- Ensure equipment is in optimal working condition.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records related to equipment maintenance, repairs, and service history.
- Document inspections, parts replacements, and compliance with safety standards.
- Commissioning and Decommissioning:
- Assist with commissioning new equipment, ensuring it meets safety and operational requirements.
- Safely decommission equipment when needed.
- Health and Safety:
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines during all tasks.
- Conduct risk assessments and follow safe working practices.
- Site Support:
- Collaborate with site supervisors and project managers to ensure equipment availability.
- Assist management in maintaining compliance with environmental permits.
- Skills and Qualifications:
- City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Valid driving license and ideally a Forklift license (FLT).
- Experience in a similar role, preferably within the rail industry.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with welding, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Major component overhaul skills.
- Organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
