Mechanical Superintendent 

Power & Infrastructure Resourcing is currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to join a major project at Hinkley Point C, one of the UK's largest and most significant nuclear new-build developments.

Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset
Contract Duration: 9 Months (with strong potential for extension)
Start Date: End of June 2026
Rate: Competitive (Negotiable depending on experience)
Working Pattern: 10 Days On / 4 Days Off

About the Role

Our client is a leading industrial systems integrator delivering specialist engineering solutions across the nuclear and energy sectors. Their expertise spans mechanical engineering, metallurgy, piping, valves, welding, fabrication, installation, logistics, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning services.

As a Mechanical Superintendent, you will provide leadership and strategic oversight of mechanical installation activities across a major nuclear construction project, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee mechanical installation activities across designated work areas.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, and nuclear industry standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise mechanical teams, supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, and compliance with programme milestones.
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure effective implementation of safety and quality procedures.
  • Liaise with project management, engineering teams, client representatives, and key stakeholders.
  • Support project delivery objectives while maintaining the highest standards of nuclear safety and operational excellence.
  • Ensure all documentation, permits, inspections, and quality records are completed accurately and maintained in line with project requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Extensive mechanical engineering experience within the nuclear, energy, engineering construction, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Previous experience in a Mechanical Superintendent or senior mechanical leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Mechanical installation
    • Piping systems
    • Welding and fabrication
    • Mechanical construction methodologies
    • Quality assurance and compliance requirements
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within highly regulated and safety-critical environments.
  • Valid CCNSG Safety Passport.

Hinkley Point C Competency Requirements

Applicants must meet the Hinkley Point C competency framework for Mechanical Superintendents through recognised qualifications and/or competency pathways.

Recognised qualifications may include:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship in:
    • Engineering Construction
    • Pipefitting
    • Mechanical
    • Plating
    • Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician
    • Engineering Fitter
    • Metal Fabricator
    • Project Controls Technician
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship in Plating.
  • ACE Card demonstrating a Level 3 Diploma in:
    • Pipefitting
    • Mechanical
    • Plating
    • Metal Fabrication
    • Mechanical / Engineering Fitter
  • Level 3 Certificate in Heating and Ventilation Installation.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Installing Engineering Construction Plant and Systems (Pipefitting).
  • Level 3 Diploma in Installing and Commissioning Machinery and Equipment.
  • Indian Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Indian Fitter Trade Test.
  • Turkish Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Turkish Machine Engineering Degree.

Additional recognised nuclear qualifications may include:

  • BOI HO
  • CSQ
  • SCNI
  • M1
  • HN1 Large Component Replacement
  • HN1 Reactor Opening and Closing (OFC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • SMSTS
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Enrolment onto ILM Level 3 Certificate C&BE.
  • Completion of Nuclear Unit training.
  • Confirmation of booking onto the Nuclear Engineering Construction Supervisor (NECS) programme.
  • Previous experience working on major nuclear construction projects.
  • French or Portuguese language skills would be advantageous due to collaboration with international project teams.

Working Hours

  • 10 Days On / 4 Days Off
  • Day shifts currently in operation
  • Potential requirement to support night shift activities
  • 07:00 – 17:00
  • 1.5-hour unpaid break
  • 8.5 paid hours per day
